The Franciscan Sisters of Peace are an Institute of Diocesan Right. Their Congregation Center is located in Haverstraw, New York. They are engaged in a variety of ministries, including teaching; religious education; pastoral ministry in parishes, nursing homes; spiritual direction; inner-city housing programs; after-school programs; outreach on behalf of detainees seeking asylum.
The Tenth General Chapter of the Franciscan Sisters of Peace was held at Marian Woods, Hartsdale in June 2023. Sr. Marlene Weisenbeck, FSPA, canonist, facilitated the Chapter events.
After both a personal and communal discernment process regarding future leadership, the FSP members voted to extend the terms of those sisters presently serving as Congregation Minister, Assistant to the Congregation Minister and Councilors. As a result of the Chapter proceedings, a recommendation for an extension of the leadership term for up to three years was made to Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, who gave his approval. Sisters Helen Wacker, Dorothy DeYoung, Jeanne Gilligan and Regina Holtz accepted the appointment by Cardinal Dolan to continue in their present roles until 2026.
